Roland John Bonneau, 85, passed away at 12:40pm, Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018 at Cambridge Hospital, Cambridge, MA. He was born on July 21, 1933 in Dexter, Maine, to his parents, the late John and Lenora (McGilvery) Bonneau. At 17, Roland enlisted in the U.S. Army, completed his training and served at Ft. Bragg, NC until his honorable discharge in 1953. He was awarded both the National Defense Service Medal and the Parachutist Badge during his time in the military.
Roland lived on Boston’s North Shore for many years and worked as a machinist. He returned to Dexter for a time, and lived at Soldier’s Home in Chelsea, MA for the past 15 years. Roland was a fiercely independent man who enjoyed being outdoors feeding the birds. He also loved talking about his home state of Maine.
Roland is remembered by his many nieces and nephews in the North East and mid-Atlantic regions. He was predeceased by his sisters Jackie Ruksznis, Glennis Pagliuso and Jean Flewelling and his nephew Carroll Ruksznis. Future burial arrangements at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter, Maine are pending.
