Francis "Frank" Murphy, Jr. Obituary

MURPHY, Francis W. "Frank", Jr.- Chelsea Fire Department, retired, after 29 years of service to his community, of Chelsea, January 16th. Devoted son of Patricia (Gurkin) Murphy-Marsters and her late husband William and the late Francis W. Murphy, Sr. Father of Erin Kate Murphy of Chelsea. Beloved brother of Debra Murphy and her wife Beverly Corwin of Beverly, Patricia Blais and her husband Jack of Holliston, Steven Murphy and his wife Joy of Plymouth and the late James Murphy. Lovingly survived by 6 nieces and 1 nephew. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend a Funeral Mass celebrated in Our Lady of Grace Church, 59 Nichols Street, Chelsea on Tuesday, January 22nd at 10 o'clock. (Those attending are asked to gather at the Church by 9:50 AM. Parking is available in the lot directly behind the Church) Visiting Hours in the Smith Funeral Home, 125 Washington Avenue, Chelsea on Monday from 3-7 PM. Burial Services will be Private. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Chelsea Firefighters Relief Association, c/o Michael Thompson, 307 Chestnut St., Chelsea, MA 02150.

A lifelong resident of Chelsea, at 62 years of age, Frank passed away at Blueberry Hill Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Beverly where he was receiving supportive and hospice care for a brief time. A graduate of Chelsea High School, Class of '74 he continued his studies at Bunker Hill Community College where he received his associates degree. A member of the Chelsea Fire Department for over 29 years until his retirement, he previously worked for 10 years as a mail carrier for the United States Post Office in Chelsea, delivering to the Prattville section of Chelsea. A MP during his service to his country with the United States Army, in his free time he enjoyed golfing, the beach and his families annual trips to Hawaii. 

Immediately following the Funeral Mass, a Luncheon will be held at the Cary Square Club, 152 Washington Avenue, Chelsea
