John T Ames, Sr.

John T Ames Sr. of Chelsea, Ma passed peacefully into eternal rest on March 22, 2022 at home surrounded by his family. John was a retired Chelsea Police Officer. He proudly served as a Patrolman and Dispatcher for 28 years. John was a certified scuba diver and was a member of The Boston Sea Rovers Diving Club. He was an amateur photographer, enjoyed listening to swing music from the late 30's and 40's, and was an avid pool player. He was a past member of the Chelsea Elks. 
John was born January 20, 1939. He was the son of the late Mary (Smith) and Albert T. Ames of East Boston. 
John was the devoted and loving husband of the late Judith E. (Glover) Ames. He was adored by his sisters Carol Anne Clark, Mary Alice Gaidelis and her husband Ted, and the late Alberta Rybinski.
 John is survived by his loving children Jeanette Ames of Chelsea, Gary Ames and his wife Allison of Malden, and James Ames and his partner LeeAnn Minichiello of South Yarmouth. John was predeceased by his son, John T. Ames Jr.
John leaves behind his grandchildren of whom he was very proud: Joshua Ames and his wife Rebecca of Westwood, Gary Ames Jr. and his wife Stanis of Salem, Cory Ames of Wilmington, NC, and Nicole Ames-Traill and her husband Christopher of Malden. John was also a great-grandpa to Adam and Edith Ames of Westwood Ma. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Friday, April 1st from 4-7 PM in the Smith Funeral Home, 125 Washington Avenue, Chelsea. Entombment Services will be private.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, Bread of Life Malden, or a charity of your choice.
