SARRO, Rita R. (Ryan)- Of Chelsea, December 23rd. Devoted wife of John C. Joyce. Loving daughter of Theodore and Dorothy Podymaitis. Beloved mother of Brenda Lopez of Fall River, Christina Perry of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Kevin Patrick Ryan of Kentucky and Lisa Murphy of Quincy. Sister of Patrick Ryan of Somerville, Johnny Ryan of Maine, Maureen Ryan of Warwick, Rhode Island, Donna Ryan of Athol, Michael Podymaitis and Billy Podymaitis both of Somerville, Stephen Podymaitis of Louisiana and Cathy Podymaitis of Somerville. Cherished grandmother of Angelina Echevarria, Jasmine and Ivy Lopez. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend Visiting Hours in the Smith Funeral Home, 125 Washington Avenue, Chelsea on Saturday, December 28th from 3-5 PM. Committal Services will be private.

Born in Cambridge 66 years ago, Rita passed away at the Boston Medical Center in Boston where she was receiving supportive care for cancer. Growing up in Somerville, she was a graduate of Somerville High School, Class of 1971. After high school, she worked as a day care teacher at Mystic Learning Center and then at the Elizabeth Peabody House both located in Somerville. When not working, she especially loved doting on her family, especially her grandchildren as well as crocheting, watching wrestling, watching TV and her visits to local casinos.
