Jean (Doherty) McCarthy

McCARTHY, Jean (Doherty)- In Wakefield, formerly of Chelsea, September 3rd. Beloved wife of the late Joseph L. McCarthy. Devoted daughter of the late Edward and Alice (Delano) Doherty. Sister of the late Edward Doherty, Jr. and Richard Doherty. Loving aunt of Katheleen Fazio of Plymouth, William and Nancy Doherty of Walpole, Brian Doherty of Chelsea and Eileen Vitale of Salem. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend Visitation in the Smith Funeral Home, 125 Washington Avenue, Chelsea on Monday, September 9th at 10 AM followed by a Graveside Service in Woodlawn Cemetery, 302 Elm Street, Everett at 11 AM.

Born in Chelsea 83 years ago, Jean attended St. Rose High School and continued at the Sisters of Providence. For many years she worked for the City of Chelsea in the purchasing department.  When her husband Joseph's illness progressed, she left City Hall to care for him. She resided in Chelsea her entire life and was often seen taking the bus "downtown", a pass time she enjoyed to do frequently. In her last years she took up residence at Greenwood Nursing and Rehab in Wakefield where she lived out her life receiving loving quality care.
